On April 22–24, 2026, the Kazakhstani capital city of Astana hosted the Regional Ecological Summit — RES 2026, Central Asia’s premier international platform for dialogue on environmental issues and sustainable development. The Republican Public Association “Climate Research Center,” ALLATRA’s strategic partner in Kazakhstan, took an active part in the event, presenting key scientific findings and building connections with leading international participants.

Scale of the Event

The summit was initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and supported by a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly. Opening the summit, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev articulated a fundamental principle:

“Modern environmentalism isn’t limited to climate issues alone. It is the very foundation of humanity’s existence. Environmental cooperation must serve as a reliable tool of unity and never divide us.”

The Kazakhstani leader emphasized that environmental cooperation must be built on partnership and shared responsibility rather than division and disagreement:

“Nature can exist without geopolitics, but geopolitics cannot exist without nature.”

As the President further noted, the United Nations, founded eighty years ago, remains indispensable as a universal platform for dialogue.

During the summit, representatives of RPA “Climate Research Center” held a series of important meetings with international officials.

Yasumasa Iijima, Japanese diplomat and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Kazakhstan

Yasumasa Iijima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressed Japan’s readiness to cooperate in preventing environmental disasters and sharing advanced technologies. During the discussion with representatives of the Climate Research Center, special emphasis was placed on Japan’s extensive experience in natural disaster risk management and its willingness to share this expertise through bilateral cooperation with Kazakhstan.

Aleška Simkić, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressed interest in the documentary “Nanoplastics. Threat to Life,” produced by the ALLATRA Global Research Center, and thanked its creators for the film’s relevance and timeliness.

Aqmaral Älnazarova, Kazakhstani public official and Minister of Health

A key highlight of the Climate Research Center’s participation in the summit was the presentation of the scientific report “Nanoplastics in the Biosphere: From Molecular Impact to Planetary Crisis” to Aqmaral Älnazarova, Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The minister’s attention was drawn to the fact that the report prepared by the ALLATRA Global Research Center addresses one of the most pressing and underestimated environmental threats of our time. Scientific data compiled in the report indicate that nanoplastic particles can interfere with fundamental mechanisms of cellular regulation. At the organismal level, this interference is linked to destabilization of the gut–brain axis, neurobiological and cardiovascular disorders, hormonal imbalances, adverse effects on reproductive function, and an increased risk of cancer. The issue is global in scope: nanoplastic particles have been detected in the air, water, soil, and living organisms worldwide.

Middle: Munkhtamir Batbayar, Vice Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia

Representatives of the Climate Research Center also met with Munkhtamir Batbayar, Vice Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia. Following the meeting, the vice minister was presented with the report “Nanoplastics in the Biosphere: From Molecular Impact to Planetary Crisis.”

Panel sessions at the Regional Ecological Summit — RES 2026

The 2026 Regional Ecological Summit reaffirmed that today’s environmental challenges are systemic and transboundary in nature, affecting the resilience of both natural and social systems. In this context, issues related to the spread of nanoplastics are becoming increasingly urgent and require further scientific research and international cooperation.
