Vienna, September 19, 2025. Representatives of the International Public Movement ALLATRA and the Creative Society project took part in the international conference “UN – 80 years for Peace, Perspectives for the Future”, which was held at the Vienna International Centre. The event brought together diplomats, representatives of the United Nations, academia, NGOs, and civil society to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the UN and to reflect on the perspectives of strengthening peace and sustainable development worldwide.

The conference opened with a solemn ceremony dedicated to peace and international solidarity. Peter Haider, Chair of the NGO Committee on Peace in Vienna, delivered the opening remarks. Messages of peace and solidarity were presented by Rebecca Jovin, Chief of Office, UN Office for Disarmament Affairs in Vienna, as well as UN Ambassadors. The program included musical performances that created an atmosphere of unity and hope, culminating in the symbolic ringing of the Peace Bell at the Memorial Plaza, which reminded participants of the shared responsibility of humanity for maintaining peace.

Following the ceremony, an international panel discussion gathered distinguished speakers and experts who shared their visions of global cooperation in the context of new challenges. Among them were:

  • Mr. Jean-Luc Lemahieu – Visiting Lecturer in International Relations, member of the Advisory Board of the Siracusa Institute, former Director of Policy Analysis and Public Information, UNODC.
  • Dr. Verena Winiwarter – Professor of Environmental History at the Institute for Social Ecology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences; Head of the Commission for Interdisciplinary Ecological Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences; awarded Scientist of the Year 2013 in Austria.
  • Ms. Heather Wokusch – Founder of blockhub.care, developer of EdTech and PeaceTech systems for humanitarian capacity building, Executive Director of SDG2030.me.
  • Ms. Anastasia Yatskov – Founder and Programme Director of Earth Charter Austria, a global initiative to promote justice, sustainability, and peace.

In their interventions, the speakers addressed the role of international cooperation in maintaining global security, the urgent need to strengthen climate resilience and environmental awareness, and the importance of education and digital innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Representatives of ALLATRA IPM and the partner project  Creative Society actively contributed to the dialogue, emphasizing the importance of intercultural exchange and the inclusion of environmental issues in peacebuilding strategies. They highlighted the necessity of uniting scientific knowledge, diplomacy, and social initiatives in order to effectively address global challenges and to secure human rights and freedoms.

The participation of ALLATRA underscored the importance of information and awareness in modern society. Informing people about global processes, creating platforms for dialogue, and involving youth in international cooperation are key to shaping a culture of peace. Particular attention was paid to the role of NGOs, which act as a bridge between civil society and international institutions, providing fresh perspectives, mobilizing communities, and contributing to diplomatic efforts.

The conference once again confirmed that only through mutual respect, collective responsibility, and the active involvement of all sectors of society can sustainable peace be achieved.
