ALLATRA Participated in COP16 Conference in Saudi Arabia

ALLATRA at the UN COP16 Summit, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

ALLATRA International Public Movement delegation actively participated in the 16th session of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification conference (COP16), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to 12, 2024. The conference focused on land degradation, water scarcity, and climate change. The summit brought together delegates from over 200 countries worldwide and served as a crucial platform for discussing global initiatives and seeking solutions.

Representatives of ALLATRA International Public Movement held strategically important meetings and exclusive interviews with Summit organizers, as well as leading experts, guests, and delegations from various countries, strengthening international cooperation and raising key global issues of ensuring a sustainable future on Earth.

During the conversation with the delegation of ALLATRA International Public Movement, the president of COP16, the Minister of Environment of Saudi Arabia, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, emphasized:

"We need not only the government, but also the private sector and non-governmental actors. So, this is really not about nationality, because that will not address this global challenge. We need to work nationally, regionally, and globally.

The youth groups, the groups representing indigenous people, NGOs, and others are truly an important part of the solution. As you can see here at COP, we want it to be the COP of engagement and inclusiveness, where we not only focus on government discussions and policies, but also engage all stakeholders—global stakeholders—to be part of the solution. The stakes are high, and the impact is not only one-dimensional, but multi-dimensional."

Volunteers of ALLATRA International Public Movement presented innovative approaches to the scientific community and the general public regarding the application of existing Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG) on a global scale. They emphasized their potential in providing the Earth's population with clean drinking water, cleaning the world's oceans from plastic, and their significance for stabilizing the planet's climate situation. These topics sparked active discussions, highlighting the necessity of international cooperation and the implementation of advanced technologies to address current global challenges.

Notably, alongside the presented ideas, 17-year-old inventor Alis Loay from Saudi Arabia was present at COP16, who also contributed to the discussion on atmospheric water generators. Volunteers of ALLATRA International Public Movement interviewed her, during which she spoke about her accessible AWG analog, capable of producing up to 10 liters of water per day. Her invention, successfully tested in field conditions, demonstrated significant potential for scaling and can be applied both in domestic and infrastructure-wide contexts.
