ALLATRA Natural Science Review

ALLATRA Natural Science Review is a quarterly interdisciplinary review that brings together researchers, environmental specialists, engineers, data analysts, educators, healthcare professionals and policy experts to examine recent advances in the natural sciences and what they mean for decisions that shape society and its long-term future.

The Review focuses on planetary systems, including climate, geodynamic processes, natural hazards and ocean–atmosphere interaction; on micro- and nanoplastics, covering their dispersal through the environment, their effects on ecosystems and living organisms, the potential risks to public health, and the methods used to detect them; on ecological resilience, covering biodiversity, soil and water systems, adaptation to changing conditions and preparedness for natural hazards; and on the relationship between emerging science and society, from data science and biotechnology to science communication and strategic decision-making.

The Review is addressed to scientific and educational institutions, to decision-makers, to researchers reading beyond their own specialism, and to a wider readership of informed non-specialists. Its aim is to make recent advances in the natural sciences accessible to a broad professional and public readership while preserving scientific accuracy, and to distinguish clearly between conclusions supported by the available evidence and questions that remain scientifically uncertain.

All material is editorially reviewed. Scientific guidance is provided by an Editorial Board of researchers and practitioners drawn from across the natural and applied sciences. The Review is published by the ALLATRA Global Research Center, which operates entirely on a volunteer basis and carries no advertising or sponsored content. The publication holds to principles of scientific objectivity, is free from political partisanship, and is written in language equally accessible to specialists and to informed readers outside the field.

Natural Science in an Age of Planetary Change

The inaugural issue of the ALLATRA Natural Science Review spans several areas of scientific inquiry. A prominent place is given to micro- and nanoplastics, increasingly understood not only as an environmental issue but as a matter of human exposure and health — from the earliest stages of human development and its clinical implications to neurological changes observed in the natural world and the advanced methods needed to reliably detect particles at this scale, and even the fundamental question of why plastics hold an electrical charge at all. The issue also turns to the instruments of knowledge itself — in particular, the growing role of machine learning as an increasingly important research method. A separate section is devoted to natural hazards and the planetary systems that produce them: the unusual two-shock earthquake in northern Venezuela, a rigorous analysis of the 2025 Kamchatka earthquake, and the heat accumulating in the Pacific Ocean ahead of a potentially severe El Niño. The issue closes with an extended conversation on the state of the world's oceans and the science behind their protection.
