The conference started with a presentation of the report “Recycling in Italy 2025,” prepared by the Sustainable Development Foundation in collaboration with 19 industrial associations of Italy. The report was presented by the Foundation President, Edo Ronchi. This document is the main national benchmark for monitoring the industry status and includes current data on the collection, recycling, and utilization of secondary materials. Following the presentation, an expert discussion was held on the strategic importance of recycling for the Italian economy.
Plenary and panel sessions addressed key industry challenges, including the plastic crisis, delays in managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and regulatory and technical barriers hindering the development of recycling supply chains. Particular attention was paid to measures for stimulating investment, fostering innovation, and strengthening competitiveness of the Italian recycling industry at the European level.
In the afternoon, discussions focused on European prospects for the industry within the context of the Circular Economy Act aimed to create a unified market for secondary raw materials, reduce dependence on primary materials, and develop advanced recycling technologies. Special attention was paid to issues of market volatility as well as ensuring the quality and traceability of recycled products.
